Tips for booking your 2022-2023 Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Vendor
Weddings are back! With the uncertainty of the past few years on rules and regulations due to the pandemic weddings have resumed and they are coming in strong numbers! The wedding industry has projected that 2.4 million weddings are set to happen in 2022 alone. Numbers like this has not been seen since 1984! Booking and securing your vendors as soon as you can is more important now than ever.
Many Artists book up to a year in advance. So, if you have your heart set on a certain makeup artist or hairstylist it’s never too early to reserve your wedding date.
Here are some tips from my professional point of view on how to book your makeup artist and hairstylist. I hope this will help all future brides and clients on how they can select their perfect artist!
- Research, research, research!
One of the best ways to find an artist is to ask friends & family for referrals. What better way to get real reviews then those close to you that you can trust? Another great source for recommendations is your venue or photographer. Many vendors have worked with one another and will provide you with great referrals.
Once you find a few artists check out the artists credentials. Are they professionally licensed? Professional artists will have the skills and knowledge to provide you with only the very best experience for your wedding day. Check to see how long they’ve been in business for and how active they are on social media, such as Facebook, Instagram or their website. An artist who is recently active means they are serious about their work and profession and are proud to share their work with everyone. This also means less of a chance of the artist cancelling on you last minute, or not showing up. I know it sounds awful, but I have seen it happen. Therefore, it is essential to book a vendor who is a professional.
- Look for an artist that suits your style
There is no right or wrong when it comes to makeup or hair. There are many different styles and looks, choose an artist who fits your personality and style. An artist is called an artist because each artist is unique in their own ways. If you are looking for more of a natural look then look for an artist who caters more to natural makeup application, then an artist who specializes in full on glamour. If you are a full-on glam bride, then choose an artist whose portfolio is more geared towards full glamour. When it comes to the hair style the same rings true. Do you want something classic, modern, elegant or are you looking for more of a boho look? Most artists will be able to recreate any look and will be able to help you bring your vision to life.
- Hygiene & Sanitation Process
All professional artists will have no problem in telling you what their safety protocols are and what their procedure is when it comes to keeping all the tools clean. Although this is always the industry standard, it is more imperative now then ever to make sure that no cross contamination happens in any of the makeup and or hair tools. Here at Jennifer Le Makeup we use disposable tools where applicable and we clean and sanitize in between every client. We take the health and safety of all of our clients very seriously.
- Friends & Family members who offer their services
You may be a lucky one if you have someone who can offer to do your makeup or hair for free. It Is so tempting but don’t let the free part of it cause any mishaps for your special day. If they don’t do it as a profession day in day out what will that mean for your wedding day? So many things could go wrong, and it’ll put unnecessary tension on all parties involved. Usually, I will have last minute brides try to book in last minute because a friend of a friend, a friend or family member didn’t work out.
- Do not book an artist based on price alone
When you are looking for services for your special day it’s like comparing apples with oranges. You simply cannot compare two artists based on pricing alone as the end results will always be different. Each artist will have a different level of service, a certain style and even a certain personal touch that they may offer.
How much an artist charges can be based on their demand in the industry, what type of products they use, how long they’ve been in business for, and the market you are getting married in. I know that sometimes it can be an added financial strain, especially if you’re on a budget and that is okay. From my professional experience and time in the industry, makeup and hair should not be decided on by the lowest price or who is cheaper.
It can be overwhelming and stressful looking for your perfect makeup artist and hair stylist, but I hope with these tips it has given you some confidence in knowing exactly what you are looking for. I suggest you write down a list of questions and make a checklist if you need to. Write down what you are absolutely looking for and what you can live without. I offer phone consultations or in person consults to all my clients should you need it. I am always here to answer all questions no matter how small or big. My goal is to make sure all my clients are comfortable, happy and most importantly excited about their experience on the most special day of their lives. Give me a vision, and I will turn it into reality!
Xoxo I can’t wait to meet you!
